Quality above all. Berber carpet M'Rirt - the Excellence of Moroccan Berber carpet
Quality of the Berber carpet above all
Myberberedesign focuses on the sale of high quality Berber rugs. We primarily offer M'Rirt rugs, which are the best quality Berber rugs. Beni Ouarain rugs, like Azilal rugs, remain fairly basic and much less well finished rugs that can be found almost everywhere. We will never offer rugs from Fez or Rabat, which are not high enough quality.
Our sales model is focused on selling to boutiques, who in turn resell the rugs. It is impossible to validate the quality of a rug if you have not seen it with your own eyes and especially if you have not touched it. On the internet, we buy images, not rugs. The Internet is useful for a first purchasing approach, to validate the choice of design, colors, patterns, but it does not allow you to validate the quality of a carpet.
It's not uncommon to come across people who will tell you: "I bought the same rug for half the price." Without being able to touch and compare the two, it is impossible to know if this is actually the case.
Quality of the essential wool for a beautiful quality Berber carpet
Wool plays a crucial role in the quality of the carpet. There are three types of wool:
- Pure virgin wool, from the very first shearing of the sheep at one year old. - Live wool, collected from a living sheep.
- Dead wool, recovered from a dead sheep.
These three types of wool serve as the basis for the manufacture of rugs of varying degrees of quality. Obviously, the best wool is pure virgin wool from a young sheep. This wool is more robust, greasier and offers excellent manufacturing qualities. Dead wool is obviously much less qualitative. If you don't touch the rug, it's impossible to know what wool was used.
A real, high-quality Berber rug will not last forty or fifty years, it will last centuries. Auctions are held for fifteenth century rugs; and everything is important.
Weaving techniques for a quality Berber carpet
A M'Rirt rug will cost much more than a Beni Ouarain rug because the weaving is not the same and neither is the washing technique. A M'Rirt rug has around 80,000 knots per square meter, while a Beni Ouarain rug has 40,000. Everything plays into the quality of the rug: single knot rug, double knot rug, triple knot rug. We can sometimes see very fine Berber carpets with more than 120,000 knots per m2.
M'Rirt Berber rugs are woven with washed wool, then undergo numerous washes after manufacturing to give them a very soft and unique feel. The quality of the carpet also depends of course on the quality of its warp, its weft and its weaving.
Myberberedesign favors the sale of rugs of the best possible quality, particularly highlighting M'Rirt rugs from the Moroccan Atlas.
The stages of weaving the Berber carpet
The process of weaving a Berber rug can be described simply in three main stages: warp, weft and weaving.
Chain :
Definition: The warp is the set of threads stretched on the loom.
Function: These vertical threads serve as a base and structure for the rug. They are arranged parallel and kept under tension to facilitate weaving.
The plot:
Definition: The weft is made up of horizontal threads which are interwoven with the threads of the warp.
Function: These threads are passed successively above and below the warp threads to form the fabric of the carpet. The weft contributes to the stability and solidity of the carpet.
Weaving :
Definition: Weaving is the act of passing the weft threads through the warp threads in a precise pattern.
Process :
Insertion of the weft: A weft thread is passed alternately above and below the warp threads using a shuttle. Packing: After each pass of the weft, the thread is packed downward with a comb or beater to ensure that it is tight. Repetition: This process is repeated, thread after thread, to create the pattern and structure of the rug.
In summary, weaving a Berber carpet consists of stretching the warp threads, intertwining the weft threads and repeating these actions to form the carpet. Each step is essential to ensure the quality and durability of the final carpet.
